Google has started giving away 7 Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphones as part of its Google Nexus Challenge, according to the company’s @googlenexus Twitter account.
It’s a daily puzzle contest, with Google giving away a phone a day to the winner, starting on Nov. 12 and ending on Nov. 21, a Monday.
That could point to its availability date to the broader public. Or not. Verizon, which is offering the Galaxy Nexus this year, likes to launch phones on Thursdays or Fridays.
The Galaxy Nexus, as many of you reading this likely already know, is the first Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” phone, offering a 4.65-inch, HD 720p Super AMOLED display and powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core chip.
ICS borrows some of the Android “Honeycomb” tablet user interface intricacies for the smartphone form factor, and includes Android Beam NFC capabilties and facial detection for lock/unlock screens.
Challenge 2, which ran Sunday was to make a video or picture of something “geeky and edible.”
The Challenge is running in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, and South Korea. Google explained:
Because this contest spans many countries with different time zones, we will post new photo challenges, puzzles, and essay questions the questions at different times to ensure each region receives a question during their normal day hours as follows, unless an announcement on the @googlenexus Twitter account states otherwise 24 hours in advance.
